The future of the iPod →

Dan Frommer muses on what will become of the iPod, a device that has seen quite a few changes in its 10 year history. While his speculation is interesting, one thing in particular stood out to me:

The new “regular” iPod touch could sport a ~4.5-inch screen, and might even come with optional 3G wireless data service, like the iPad does. This could be a gaming monster (with the same screen resolution as the iPhone).

I’ve long thought that Apple’s next move with the iPod touch was to add an a la carte 3G service similar to the iPad. However, Frommer’s speculation of a larger screen on the iPod almost makes sense. It might even be cheaper to have a larger screen with the same resolution as a Retina display.
